Become certified with IMO
We offer an experienced and personal service throughout each stage of the certification process. We aim to make the process of certification as straightforward as possible.
There are three key steps to certification:
1. Application for certification
or submit your
application form: Get in contact with a member of our friendly team at the nearest IMO office or the IMO group office in Switzerland.
The information pack includes all you need to apply as well as more information on our services, fees and procedures. IMO might need to ask some questions back. If requested, IMO will send a detailed offer (provisional cost estimate) for the costs of inspection and certification of your operation according to all chosen standards.
Officially apply for certification:
Please fill in the IMO operator profile, which is part of the information pack and also explains the most important requirements for organic certification. By submitting the signed offer and contract you officially apply for certification.
Inspection date is scheduled:
We’ll arrange an inspection date of your operation and inform you what to prepare. A prepayment is due before the inspection is finally confirmed.
An IMO inspector will inspect your operation's activity with regard to your compliance with the chosen organic standards.
Client receives inspection report: At the end of the inspection, the findings will be discussed and documented in the inspection report. Specific questions about measures to be taken to ensure compliance can be discussed at that point.
3. Evaluation and Certification
Evaluation of inspection report(s):
Certification officers will further evaluate the inspection findings and take a certification decision.
Certificate is issued by IMO:
If the production method proves to be compliant with the specification’s requirements, IMO issues certification. Any non-compliance results in requests for remedial action and/or sanctions. As soon as certification has been issued, you can start to export/market organic products to all markets for which your certification is valid.
Final documents are sent to client:
Besides the certificate you will receive a certification decision letter, a summary assessment possibly with a list of required corrective measures for each requested certification scheme as well as the final evaluation report. Your report can be sent to private label organisations for additional certification.
