JASProduction and processing of organic products for the Japanese market is regulated in the Japanese Agriculture Standard (JAS) . The certified products are identified with the official JAS organic seal of the Japanese government. All plant products (foodstuffs) which shall be labelled with "organic" for sales in Japan must be labelled with the JAS seal and must be certified according to the JAS standard.
IMO is registered by MAFF (Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries) and inspects and certifies organic food and feed products in the fields of agriculture and processing that are aimed for export to the Japanese organic market. Certification requirementsThe JAS standard for organic foodstuffs is presented in various documents (Law N° 175 of 1950 regarding labelling as the basis, and related standards and notifications with the requirements for organic production). A link to the official standard texts can be found in our legislation page.
Certification proceduresJAS certification requires a separate certification process, although the conformity with requirements may of course be verified in an inspection combined with the verification for other standards as the EU Regulation (EC) N° 834/2007 and (EC) N° 889/2008 or the US NOP Standard.
