The Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) is another certification system for forests and forest products. PEFC has its own requirements, guidelines and specific control methodology. For the certification of forests both, PEFC and FSC, have varying regional guidelines which make statements comparing the quality of each logo difficult. PEFC was born from the demand for economical certification systems which work with minimum efforts of control, random testing and regional controls instead of testing each single forest company.

The standard for the certification of timber processors is valid word-wide, there are no regional differences. IMO is accredited for world-wide COC certification (PEFC/4-4-0022).
