Objective evidence that wood products are certified from the original forest through processing to the point-of-sale is essential for the credibility of certification logos. Therefore, certification of the original forest (
Forest Management) is differentiated from certification of the process by which merchandise is created (
Chain of Custody). Specific requirements and controls exist for each.
The result of successful independent certification is the FSC trademark signifying to customers that the labelled goods were produced from well managed forest resources: Clear reference must be made between the trademark and the certified products and the certified company, respectively. Any used trademark shall be registered and authorised by the certification body beforehand. In consent with IMO the IMO logo can be used by the certificate holder, too.
IMO is accredited for world-wide Forest Management and Chain Of Custody Certification.
