Responsible Forest ManagementAs a renewable resource, wood is an exceptional ecological product with a multitude of applications. Through careless exploitation of forests, not only limited to examples in the tropics, critical public opinion has lead to boycott action and popular slogans against the use of wood. These flat-out statements give injustice to the ecological production of wood as one of our most sustainable resources.
For the successful marketing of wood products, steps must be taken to differentiate careless exploitation from the responsible production of wood. Such differentiation can refresh discussion about the advantages of wood products and win back consumer confidence. Certification of forest industry activities by a third party is a possible solution. The result of independent certification is a logo signifying to customers that goods have been produced from responsibly managed, natural forest resources. At present the leading market logo is the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). >> certification_of_forest_management_and_chain_of_custody.pdf GlossaryAccreditation
