US National Organic ProgramThe labelling of organic food on the US market is regulated by the National Organic Program. The national label for organic food is the USDA Seal. As aquaculture and fishery products are tentatively out of scope, the USDA seal may not be used for this product group. However, it is tolerated that aquatic products are marketed as organic (see private standards). The products must be certified by a respective standard, the standard has to be clearly indicated on the product.
The rule making for organic aquaculture and fishery is in progress but the proposed requirements have not been published yet (June 2005). Please inform yourself on the official webpage: >> National Organic Program |
